Whirling Strike Ranged Projectile Blood Knight Guide

This Whirling Strike Ranged Projectile Blood Knight is debatably the strongest Blood Knight build for PvM and does very well in PvP as well. The long ranged Whirling Strike projectiles do well against whales (big money spenders) in PvP which helps if you don't plan on spending a significant amount of money on the game. The build uses the Whirling Strike projectile skill with Shadow's Edge, Mephitic Cloud, Shroud of Night, and Swarm of Bats. With the recommended legendary items Whirling Strike fires large area of effect projectiles and gains three charges, Mephitic Cloud affects an area around you and drains enemies life, Shroud of Night summons minions that attack enemies with your primary skill, and Swarm of Bats attacks enemies when you use a primary skill. For PvP, a different shoulder essence is recommended for Swarm of Bats which makes it consume your life while it hunts down enemies to deal even more damage. This different Swarm of Bats essence is important for PvP because it doesn't require a primary skill to be used to trigger its effect.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: Whirling Strike Ranged Blood Knight Build

1. Slayer is the highest damage paragon because it increases the damage of your primary skills and primary skill effects.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and gives increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard because it has a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The best paragon legendary skill for this build is Death's Release which causes explosions with continual damage.

Torture and Torment (PvM) - Swarm of Bats now sends a bat to attack enemies each time you use a primary skill.

Flagellant's Spine (PvP) - Swarm of Bats now consumes your life while it hunts down enemies to deal more damage.

Legs

Nightflayer - While you remain inside Mephitic Cloud your attack and movement speed are increased.

Recommended Sets

1. Grace of the Flagellant (4 Set) - Deals damage to enemies after every 5 hits against each target.

2. Vithu's Urges (2 Set) - Increases the duration of beneficial effects on you or your party members by 30%.

3. Banquet of Eyes (PvM 2 Set) - Increases damage to enemies by 15% when they have continual damage on them.

4. Untouchable Mountebank (PvP 2 Set) - Gives a 20% chance to gain an absorb shield when you take damage.

Best Curses

1. Lashed - Using your primary attack gives a chance to generate three crackling whips that damage enemies.

2. Atrophied - Continual damage causes a dark field to appear under enemies that deals damage over time.

3. Vexed - Releases a damaging roar when your summons enter the battlefield on cooldown.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Golden Firmament - Causes a ranged wind attack and increases your evasion rating.

3. Seeping Bile - Gives a 4% chance to poison enemies and slows enemies movement speed (triggers Pain Clasp).

4. Maw of the Deep - Can be used at a high rank to deal damage, gain a damage buff, draw in enemies, and stun enemies.

5. Starfire Shard - Useful for PvP to deal damage and stun enemies inside the Maw of the Deep legendary gem effect.

6. Frozen Heart (should be switched to for PvP) - Gives a life shield with a medium duration and chills enemies.

7. Void Spark - Deals AoE damage that's extremely effective in dungeons and the new PvP map.

8. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives a damage increase and a significant boost to movement speed. It's one of the best 5 star gems at high ranks for increased damage and one of the weakest 5 star gems for increased damage at lower ranks.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies with a continual damage effect on them.

2. Viper's Bite - Deals damage over time and triggers the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem.

3. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and causes a blood spike that makes enemies bleed.

4. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

5. Fervent Fang - Gives enemies a stacking damage taken increase when they are hit by an attack.

6. Power & Command - Alternates between increased skill damage and increased primary damage and sometimes dispels. Power & Command is the lowest priority and should be the first 2 star gem to be replaced with a 5 star gem.

7. Crimson Behelit (PvP) - Great PvP two star legendary gem for increased damage and reduced damage taken.

Best 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Everlasting Torment - A great budget option that deals damage over time on critical hits and increases your attack speed.

2. Entropic Well - An excellent one star gem for skill damage that can eventually be replaced with a strong 5 star gem.

3. Berserker's Eye - Increases your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

Note: Everlasting Torment can eventually be replaced with a 5 star Seeping Bile legendary gem for higher damage.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - The best option is a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler that has Savior which provides a cheat death. The 170+ Resilience lowers the cooldown for Savior but can be lower to make the familiar more affordable.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Can have Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for more damage.

3. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill because it gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice. Innervate which gives a chance at resetting the player's skill cooldown, Steel Hide which gives a chance to block, Precision which gives the shield critical hit chance, and Tenacity which lowers the cooldown of the shield are also desirable.

4. Magic Duskprowler - Duskprowler shields are hard to replace so a rare or magic ability Duskprowler is the budget option.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and Citrines for Potency which increases harmful effects duration in yellow sockets. You should also socket your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your Rubies which give life and Topazes which give resistances into one Ruby and one Topaz and use one of each in your equipment for higher refinement. Refinement is determined by the quality of the gem and increases the main stats of the gear the gem is socketed in.

Gem Notes

The new Colossus Engine legendary gem isn't included in the recommendations because it doesn't affect primary skills and it would take about rank 6 until it would be an upgrade for PvP over more easily accessible gems. The new Specter Glass two star legendary gem is one of the best two star gems for almost every build. Viper's Bite and Seeping Bile deal continual damage and trigger the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem. Golden Firmament is a strong fairly new 5 star legendary gem that has wind damage, increased evasion rating, and it triggers Firestorms when mixed with burning damage. Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament both give increased critical hit chance so you should try and roll critical hit damage on every piece of gear with Reforge Stones when using these two critical hit gems. Fervent Fang is a nice legendary gem but it should be replaced with a Frozen Heart in PvP for an absorb shield and to chill opponents.
