Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk Guide

The Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk was previously the meta for PvP Monks but has been somewhat replaced by the newer untargetable Exploding Palm Monks in PvP. It's still a great speed farm build and decent PvP build but it has the major weakness of being susceptible to crowd control effects in PvP fights. Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monks use Cyclone Strike with Seven-Sided Strike, Mystic Ally, Fist of Thunder, and an offensive and defensive Shield of Zen from the Calefaction weapon essence. With the recommended essences Cyclone Strike is changed to channel a staff of storms that damages nearby enemies while moving and Seven-Sided Strike is changed to passively attack nearby enemies.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk Build

1. Slinger is the best damage paragon because it increases your damage and critical hit chance when you use skills.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and gives increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard because it has a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The best paragon legendary skill for this build is Lightning Rod which deals damage when you repeatedly hit enemies.

Calefaction - Shield of Zen now deals damage, reduces damage taken, and makes you immune to knockback.

Eye of the Storm - Cyclone Strike now also gains an increased radius.

Malefic Apparition - Mystic Allies also increase your critical hit chance for every spirit ally stacking up to four times.

Chest

Driven Thunder - Cyclone Strike now channels a spinning a staff of storm to damage nearby enemies.

Shoulders

Windchild (PvM) - Seven-Sided Strike now also increases your movement speed.

The First Wind (PvP) - Seven-Sided Strike now decreases your damage taken when it hits.

Legs

Waxing Steps - Mystic Allies primary attacks have a chance at summoning an additional spirit ally.

Recommended Sets

1. Grace of the Flagellant (4 Set) - Deals bonus damage after damaging an enemy five times.

2. Vithu's Urges (2 Set) - Increases the duration of beneficial effects on you and your party members by 30%.

3. Banquet of Eyes (PvM 2 Set) - Increases damage to enemies by 15% when they have continual damage on them.

4. Untouchable Mountebank (PvP 2 Set) - Gives a 20% chance to gain an absorb shield when you take damage.

Best Curses

1. Vexed - Releases a damaging roar when your minions are summoned and increases your minion's attack speed.

2. Lashed (PvM) - Using your primary attack generates three crackling whips that damage enemies on cooldown.

3. Wired (PvM) - Optional to create a surge of lightning on kill that jumps between enemies with a cooldown.

4. Ghosted (PvP) - Optional for PvP to summon a minion to take some of your incoming damage.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives increased damage, reduces damage taken below 50% life, and increases movement speed.

3. Golden Firmament - Causes multiple ranged wind attacks and increases your evasion rating.

4. Colossus Engine - Gives increased skill damage, increased area of effect, knockback immunity, and increased size (which increases your movement speed) for a medium duration with a 20 second cooldown.

5. Starfire Shard - Deals AoE damage and stuns enemies in PvP inside the Maw of the Deep legendary gem effect.

6. Blood Floe - Lower priority 5 star gem that increases damage, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and causes bleed.
7. Wulfheort (PvM) - After damaging enemies 5 times you slash them and increase attack speed for you and your allies.

8. Maw of the Deep (PvP) - Used at a high rank to deal damage, gain a damage buff, draw in enemies, and stun enemies.

9. Void Spark (PvM) - Deals AoE damage that's very effective for challenge dungeons, terror rifts, and speed farming.

10. Frozen Heart (PvP) - A strong legendary gem for PvP that gives an absorb shield and chills opponents.

Note: The Mother's Lament two star critical hit chance legendary gem can be used with the new Blood Floe critical hit chance/critical hit damage legendary gem in the place of the Maw of the Deep gem at lower resonance levels.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies that have a continuous damage effect on them.

2. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and causes a blood spike that makes enemies bleed.

3. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

4. Fervent Fang - Gives enemies a stacking damage taken increase when they are hit by an attack.

5. Mourneskull - This legacy gem can be used to increase your damage and deal damage but it no longer drops.

6. Igneous Scorn (PvM) - Can be used with Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament to deal damage on critical hits. Igneous Scorn is the lowest priority 2 star gem and should be the first to be replaced with a ranked up 5 star gem.

7. Crimson Behelit (PvP) - Strong PvP legacy gem with increased damage and reduced damage taken that's drop disabled.

Note: Viper's Bite isn't needed to trigger the damage increase on Pain Clasp from there being continuous damage on the enemy because the Shield of Zen skill with the Calefaction weapon essence already deals continuous damage.

Best 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Berserker's Eye (PvM) - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

2. Entropic Well - An excellent one star gem for skill damage that can eventually be replaced with a strong 5 star gem.

3. Everlasting Torment - A great budget option that deals damage over time on critical hits and increases your attack speed.

Note: Berserker's Eye is a great one star legendary gem that requires a high ranked up 5 star gem to match its damage.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler with the Savior passive skill which provides a cheat death and temporary damage immunity. The 170+ Resilience on the familiar lowers the cooldown of Savior.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Can have Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for more damage.

3. Any Savior Familiar - Look for any 170+ Resilience familiar with Savior for a cheat death and great passive skills.

4. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill because it gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice. Innervate which gives a chance at resetting one of the player's skill cooldowns, Steel Hide which gives a chance to block, Precision which gives critical hit chance, and Tenacity which lowers the cooldown of the shield are also desirable.

5. Magic Duskprowler - Duskprowler shields are hard to replace so a rare or magic ability Duskprowler is the budget option.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and a combination of Citrines and Topazes for potency and resistances in yellow sockets for the highest refinement. Potency increases harmful effects durations on enemies and resistances decrease harmful effects durations on you. Citrines for potency is preferred if you only care about PvM damage but resistances come into play more with PvP. You should also use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your bound Rubies which give life into one or two Rubies and socket them into your equipment if they give more refinement. Gems give refinement based on their quality and refinement increases the attributes on the equipment the gems are socketed in.

Gem Notes

The Blood Floe gem is a great option when it's combined with multiple sources of critical hit chance and critical hit damage. The Colossus Engine legendary gem is great for increasing your burst damage with this build. You won't need the Viper's Bite or Seeping Bile legendary gems to trigger the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem from having continuous damage on the target because Shield of Zen with the Calefaction weapon essence already deals continuous damage. Golden Firmament is a very strong 5 star legendary gem that has wind damage, increased evasion rating, and it triggers Firestorms when it's mixed with burning damage which increases your wind damage. When using multiple increased critical hit chance legendary gems you should also consider rolling increased critical hit damage on every piece of your equipment with Reforge Stones for increased damage. One of your lowest priority legendary gems should also be switched to a Frozen Heart five star legendary gem for PvP for an absorb shield and to chill opponents.
