Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk Guide
The Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk was previously the meta for PvP Monks but has been somewhat replaced by the newer untargetable Exploding Palm Monks in PvP. It's still a great AoE damage build and decent PvP build but it has the major weakness of being susceptible to crowd control effects in PvP fights. Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monks use the Fist of Thunder primary attack with Cyclone Strike, Seven-Sided Strike, Mystic Ally, and an offensive and defensive version of Shield of Zen. With the recommended essences Cyclone Strike is changed to channel a staff of storms that damages nearby enemies while moving and Seven-Sided Strike is changed to passively attack nearby enemies.​

Paragons & Legendary Skills: Tempest Rush Cyclone Strike Monk Build

1. Slinger is the best damage paragon because it increases your damage and critical hit chance when you use skills.
2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.
3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and gives increased damage and attack speed on kills.
4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.
5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard early on because it has a cheat death that works in Vanguard.
6. The best paragon legendary skill for this build is Lightning Rod which deals damage when you repeatedly hit enemies.

Note: Look for blue sockets on both of your rings so that you can socket them with Sapphires which give Armor Penetration.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems
1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance on cooldown and causes critical hits to burn enemies.
2. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives increased damage, reduces damage taken below 50% life, and increases movement speed.
3. Golden Firmament - Causes multiple ranged wind attacks on nearby enemies and increases your evasion rating.
4. Colossus Engine - Gives increased skill damage, increased area of effect, knockback immunity, and increased size (which increases your movement speed) for a medium duration with a 20 second cooldown.
5. Fated Trail - Deals damage over time as a percentage of your life, shatters enemies' armor, and immobilizes enemies.
6. Blood Floe - Strong gem that increases damage, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and causes enemies to bleed.
7. Golden Firmament (PvM) - Causes multiple ranged wind attacks on nearby enemies and increases your evasion rating.
8. Haunt Coil (PvP) - Greatly reduces your damage taken while using your defensive stance for a duration on cooldown.
9. Wulfheort (PvM) - After damaging enemies 5 times you slash them and increase the attack speed of you and your allies.
10. Seeping Bile (PvP) - Deals high damage over time that is great for killing opponents after they use a cheat death.
11. Void Spark (PvM) - Deals massive AoE damage that's effective for challenge dungeons, terror rifts, and speed farming.
12. ​Frozen Heart (PvP) - A strong legendary gem for PvP that gives an absorb shield and chills opponents.
Best 2 Star Legendary Gems
1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies that have a continuous damage effect on them.
2. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and causes a blood spike that makes enemies bleed.
3. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.
4. Fervent Fang - Gives enemies a stacking damage taken increase and increases your damage against elites and bosses.​
5. Mourneskull - This legacy gem can be used to increase your damage and deal damage but it no longer drops.
6. Viper's Bite - Lower priority gem for this build that deals damage over time and increases your attack speed.
7. Igneous Scorn (PvM) - Deals damage on critical hits and increases your damage after critical hits. Igneous Scorn is the lowest priority 2 star gem and should be the first to be replaced with a ranked up 5 star gem.
8. Crimson Behelit - Strong legacy gem with increased damage and reduced damage taken that's drop disabled.
Note: Viper's Bite isn't needed to trigger the damage increase on the Pain Clasp gem from there being continuous damage on the enemy because the Shield of Zen skill with the Calefaction weapon essence already deals continuous damage.

Best 1 Star Legendary Gems
1. Berserker's Eye (PvM) - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.
2. Entropic Well - An excellent one star gem for skill damage that can eventually be replaced with a five star gem.
3. Everlasting Torment - A great budget option that deals damage over time on critical hits and increases your attack speed.
4. Surging Sea - A lower priority one star legendary gem that has a skill damage increase that stacks up to 10 times.
5. Faltergrasp (PvP) - Disables opponents' dash skills on critical strikes and greatly reduces their movement speed.
Note: Berserker's Eye is a great one star legendary gem that requires a high ranked up 5 star gem to match its damage.

Best Familiars
1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler with the Savior passive skill which provides a cheat death and temporary damage immunity. The 170+ Resilience on the familiar lowers the cooldown of Savior.
2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Look for Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for more damage.
3. Ash Sweeper - Ash Sweepers are strong, especially in PvP, because they damage nearby enemies and mark an enemy reducing their damage by 20% for three seconds. They can also have 170+ Resilience to reduce the cooldown of Savior.
4. Any Savior Familiar - You can use any familiar with Savior for a cheat death and great passive skills as an alternative.
5. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill because it gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice. Innervate gives a chance at resetting one of the player's skill cooldowns, Steel Hide gives a chance to block, Precision gives critical hit chance, and Tenacity lowers the cooldown of the Duskprowler shield which are all desirable.
Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems
Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and a combination of Citrines and Topazes for potency and resistances in yellow sockets for the highest refinement. Potency increases harmful effects durations on enemies and resistances decrease harmful effects durations on you. Citrines for potency is preferred if you only care about PvM damage but resistances come into play more with PvP. You should also use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your bound Rubies which give life into one or two Rubies and socket them into your equipment if they give more refinement. Gems give refinement based on their quality and refinement increases the attributes on the equipment the gems are socketed in.

Gem Notes
The new Fated Trail five star gem is a powerful legendary gem once you have ranked up five star gems because its damage is scaled off of your maximum life. The fairly new Haunt Coil five star gem can optionally be used to increase your damage or reduce your damage taken by up to 45% for a duration. The Blood Floe five star gem is a great option when it's combined with multiple sources of increased critical hit chance and critical hit damage. You won't need the Viper's Bite or Seeping Bile legendary gems to trigger the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem from having continuous damage on the target because Shield of Zen with the Calefaction weapon essence already deals continuous damage. The Golden Firmament five star gem is another solid five star legendary gem that gives wind damage, increased evasion rating, and it triggers Firestorms when it's mixed with burning damage which increases your wind damage. When using multiple increased critical hit chance legendary gems you should also consider rolling increased critical hit damage on every piece of your equipment with Reforge Stones for more damage. One of your lowest priority legendary gems should also be switched to a Frozen Heart five star gem in PvP for a large absorb shield and to chill opponents.​
