PvP Scorch Wizard Guide

Scorch Wizards should use the Magic Missile primary along with Scorch, Arcane Wind (Meteor in PvM), Lightning Nova, and Teleport (Ice Armor in PvM). This PvP Scorch Wizard has the best crowd control abilities for PvP in the game. You should use the Vaetia's Resourceful Countenance helmet for the best crowd control version of Scorch that Shocks opponents, follows opponents off screen, and slows and damages enemies inside its area of effect. Arcane Wind with the Thistle Bloom weapon also offers great crowd control and is recommended for PvP. The Coat of the Astrum body should also be used to deal ranged damage to enemies that are Shocked by your Scorch. PvP Scorch is the best PvP Wizard build because it can attack offscreen and it's the best crowd control build in the game which wins battlegrounds.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: PvP Scorch/Arcane Wind Wizard Build

1. Slinger is the best paragon tree for damage and has increased damage and critical hit chance based on your range.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and has increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard because it provides a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The recommended legendary skill is Death's Release because it makes your continual damage explode once it expires.

Main Hand

Thistle Bloom (PvP) - Arcane Wind now creates a storm that draws enemies in.

Ol' Rustic (PvM) - Lightning Nova increases primary attack speed.

Trifling Piffle - Lightning Nova releases another Lightning Nova when hitting a Shocked enemy.

Main Hand 2

Thunderbird's Bite (PvP) - Gives increased Lightning Nova damage.

Volatile Arbiter (PvM) - Magic Missile deals additional AoE damage every three hits.

Off-Hand 2

Weathering Eye (PvP) - Arcane Wind now also slows enemies movement speed.

Stickle Burr (PvM) - Magic Missile now also deals additional damage on critical hits.

Helmet

Vaetia's Resourceful Countenance - Scorch now launches an electric orb that Shocks enemies and pursues them.

Shoulders

Phoenix Mantle (PvP) - Scorches radius is increased.

Stag of Ill Omen (PvM) - Meteor also increases your damage for a short duration.

Chest

Coat of the Astrum - Lightning Nova now arcs through enemies and deals extra damage when it hits a Shocked enemy.

Legs

Galebringers Leggings (PvP) - Arcane Wind deals increased damage.

Frostwalkers (PvM) - Meteor is changed to deal slightly higher damage and now chills enemies.

Recommended Sets

1. Grace of the Flagellant (6 Set) - Deals damage every 5 hits (includes DoTs) and has a 4% chance to deal more damage.

2. Untouchable Mountebank (2 Set) - Great for PvP for a large absorb shield which improves your survival.

Best Curses

1. Lashed - Your primary attacks give a chance to generate three crackling whips that damage enemies.

2. Wired - Useful for AoE to create a surge of lightning on kill that jumps between enemies on cooldown.

3. Ghosted - Optional for PvP to summon a minion to take some of your incoming damage.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Colossus Engine - Increases skill damage, increases area of effect, and increases size which gives movement speed.

3. Seeping Bile - Gives a 4% chance to poison enemies and slows enemies movement speed (triggers Pain Clasp).

4. Maw of the Deep - Useful at a decent rank to deal damage, gain a damage buff, draw in enemies, and stun enemies.

5. Starfire Shard - Useful in PvP to stun enemies inside crowd controls like Scorch, Arcane Wind, and Maw of the Deep.

6. Frozen Heart (important for PvP for chill) - Gives a life shield for a medium duration and chills enemies on hit.

7. Stormvault - Used at rank 5+ to create a storm that damages enemies over time and slows their movement speed.

8. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives increased damage, reduces damage taken below 50% life, and increases movement speed.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies with a continual damage effect on them.

2. Viper's Bite - Poisons enemies and triggers the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem.

3. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and releases a blood spike that causes enemies to bleed.

4. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

5. Fervent Fang - Gives a stacking damage increase and increases your damage against elites and bosses.

6. Power & Command - Alternates between increased skill damage and increased primary damage and sometimes dispels.

7. Crimson Behelit - Strong PvP gem that gives increased damage and reduced damage taken but it's drop disabled.

Best Starter 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Berserker's Eye - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

2. Entropic Well - A strong budget 1 star legendary gem that increases your skill damage and attack speed.

3. Everlasting Torment - Deals damage over time on crits which triggers the damage increase on Pain Clasp.

Note: You should eventually replace Everlasting Torment with a 5 star Seeping Bile which also triggers Pain Clasp.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler that has Savior which provides a cheat death. The 170+ Resilience lowers the cooldown for Savior but can be lower to make the Duskprowler more affordable.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Can have Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for increased damage.

3. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill because it gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice. Innervate which gives a chance at resetting the player's skill cooldown, Steel Hide which gives a chance to block, Precision which gives the shield critical hit chance, and Tenacity which lowers the cooldown of the shield are also desirable.

4. Magic Duskprowler - Duskprowler shields are hard to replace so a rare or magic ability Duskprowler is the budget option.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and Citrines for Potency which increases harmful effects durations in yellow sockets. You should use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your Rubies which give life and Topazes which give resistances and socket one or two of each into your equipment. Gems also give refinement based on their quality and refinement is used to increase the main stats on pieces of equipment.

Gem Notes

The new Specter Glass legendary two star gem is one of the best two star gems on almost every build. The Viper's Bite, Seeping Bile, and Everlasting Torment legendary gems deal damage over time which triggers the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem. Everlasting Torment can be replaced with a 5 star Seeping Bile which triggers Pain Clasp and it also slows affected enemies inside your Scorch and Arcane Wind. The Stormvault legendary gem can also be used in PvP if you can get it to rank 5+ to slow enemies and deal damage. Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament give increased critical hit chance and work well with Specter Glass which increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits. You should also consider rolling critical hit damage on every piece of equipment with Reforge Stones when using Roiling Consequence, Mother's Lament, and Specter Glass. The Frozen Heart legendary gem should also be switched to for PvP for an absorb shield and is very helpful for chilling opponents inside your Scorch and Arcane Wind.
