PvP Scorch Wizard Guide

Scorch Wizards should use the Magic Missile primary along with Scorch, Arcane Wind (Meteor in PvM), Lightning Nova, and Teleport (Ice Armor in PvM). This PvP Scorch Wizard has the best crowd control abilities for PvP in the game. You should use the Vaetia's Resourceful Countenance helmet for the best crowd control version of Scorch that Shocks opponents, follows opponents off screen, and slows and damages enemies inside its area of effect. Arcane Wind with the Thistle Bloom weapon also offers great crowd control and is recommended for PvP. The Coat of the Astrum body should also be used to deal ranged damage to enemies that are Shocked by your Scorch. PvP Scorch is the best PvP Wizard build because it hits enemies offscreen and because it's the best crowd control build which can win battlegrounds.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: PvP Scorch/Arcane Wind Wizard

1. Slinger is the best paragon tree for damage and has increased damage and critical hit chance based on your range.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and has increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for a shield, increased movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard because it provides a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The recommended legendary skill is Death's Release because it makes your continual damage explode once it expires.

Main Hand

Thistle Bloom (PvP) - Arcane Wind now creates a storm that draws enemies in.

Ol' Rustic (PvM) - Lightning Nova increases primary attack speed.

Trifling Piffle - Lightning Nova releases another Lightning Nova when hitting a Shocked enemy.

Main Hand 2

Thunderbird's Bite (PvP) - Gives increased Lightning Nova damage.

Volatile Arbiter (PvM) - Magic Missile deals additional AoE damage every three hits.

Off-Hand 2

Weathering Eye (PvP) - Arcane Wind now also slows enemies movement speed.

Stickle Burr (PvM) - Magic Missile now also deals additional damage on critical hits.

Helmet

Vaetia's Resourceful Countenance - Scorch now launches an electric orb that Shocks enemies and pursues them.

Shoulders

Phoenix Mantle (PvP) - Scorches radius is increased.

Stag of Ill Omen (PvM) - Meteor also increases your damage for a short duration.

Chest

Coat of the Astrum - Lightning Nova now arcs through enemies and deals extra damage when it hits a Shocked enemy.

Legs

Galebringers Leggings (PvP) - Arcane Wind deals increased damage.

Frostwalkers (PvM) - Meteor is changed to deal slightly higher damage and now chills enemies.

Recommended Sets

1. Grace of the Flagellant (6 Set) - Deals damage every 5 hits (includes DoTs) and has a 4% chance to deal more damage.

2. Untouchable Mountebank (2 Set) - Great for PvP for a large life shield which improves your survival.

Best Curses

1. Lashed - Using your primary attack gives a chance to generate three crackling whips that damage enemies.

2. Atrophied - Continual damage causes a dark field to appear under enemies that deals damage over time.

3. Wired - Creates a surge of lightning on kill that jumps between enemies with a medium length cooldown.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Golden Firmament (PvM only) - Deals wind damage and gives evasion but has too short of a range for PvP on this build.

3. Seeping Bile - Gives a 4% chance to poison enemies and slows enemies movement speed (triggers Pain Clasp).

4. Maw of the Deep - Useful at a decent rank to deal damage, gain a damage buff, draw in enemies, and stun enemies.

5. Starfire Shard - Useful in PvP to stun enemies inside crowd control like Scorch, Arcane Wind, and Maw of the Deep.

6. Frozen Heart (important for PvP for chill) - Gives a life shield for a medium duration and chills enemies on hit.

7. Stormvault - Used at rank 5+ to create a storm that damages enemies over time and slows their movement speed.

8. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives a damage increase and a significant boost to movement speed. It's one of the best 5 star gems at higher ranks for damage and one of the lowest priority 5 star gems for damage at lower ranks.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies with a continual damage effect on them.

2. Viper's Bite - Poisons enemies and triggers the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem.

3. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and releases a blood spike that causes enemies to bleed.

4. Fervant Fang - Gives a stacking damage increase and increases your damage against elites and bosses.

5. Power & Command - Alternates between increased skill damage and increased primary damage and sometimes dispels.

Best Starter 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Entropic Well - An excellent one star legendary gem that increases your skill damage and attack speed.

2. Berserker's Eye - Increases your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

3. Everlasting Torment - Deals damage over time on crits which triggers the damage increase on Pain Clasp.

Note: You should replace Everlasting Torment once you have a 5 star Seeping Bile gem which also triggers Pain Clasp.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler with Savior which provides a cheat death. The 170+ Resilience lowers the cooldown for Savior but can be lower to make the Duskprowler more affordable.

2. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill and gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice in a row. Innervate which gives a chance at resetting the player's skill cooldown, Steel Hide which gives a chance to block, Precision which gives the shield critical hit chance, and Tenacity which lowers the cooldown of the shield are also desirable.

3. Magic Duskprowler - Duskprowler shields are hard to replace so a rare ability or magic Duskprowler is the budget option.

Regular Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and Citrines for Potency which increases harmful effects durations in yellow sockets. You should use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your Rubies which give life and Topazes which give resistances and socket one or two of each into your equipment. Gems also give refinement based on their quality and refinement is used to increase the main stats on pieces of equipment.

Gem Notes

The new Colossus Engine legendary gem isn't included in the recommendations because it would take about rank 8 until it would be a significant upgrade over other more easily accessible options. The Viper's Bite, Seeping Bile, and Everlasting Torment legendary gems deal damage over time which triggers the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem. Everlasting Torment isn't necessary, however, once you can replace it with a leveled 5 star Seeping Bile which triggers Pain Clasp while also slowing affected enemies inside Scorch and Arcane Wind. The Stormvault legendary gem can also be used if you can get it to rank 5+ to slow enemies inside your Scorch and Arcane Wind. The Golden Firmament legendary gem is recommended for PvM to deal wind damage but its range is too short for this build for PvP. Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament give increased critical hit chance and work well with Everlasting Torment which deals damage over time on critical hits. You should also consider rolling critical hit damage on every piece of equipment with Reforge Stones when using Roiling Consequence and Mother's Lament. The Frozen Heart legendary gem should also be switched to for PvP for an absorb shield and is very helpful for chilling opponents inside your Scorch and Arcane Wind.
