PvP & PvM Exploding Palm Seven-Sided Strike Monk Guide

The Exploding Palm Seven-Sided Strike Monk uses Exploding Palm, Seven-Sided Strike, Mystic Strike, an offensive and defensive version of Shield of Zen, and the Fist of Thunder primary attack to teleport to opponents. This build also uses the Tranquil Palm weapon essence to be untargetable during your Exploding Palm attacks and the Reticent Wind gloves essence to become invisible when you use Mystic Strike. This build also has a variation that has better survival and AoE damage than the primary attack meta single target Monk. It uses Exploding Palm, Seven-Sided Strike, Mystic Ally, Fist of Thunder, and Shield of Zen. Both the PvP Monk and the PvM Monk versions of the build can be found below.

Paragons & Legendary Skills: Exploding Palm Seven-Sided Strike Monk

1. Slinger is the best damage paragon because it increases your damage and critical hit chance when you use skills.

2. Gladiator is the best PvP paragon tree for this build because it gives a cheat death and helps with loss of control.

3. Vanquisher is the best paragon tree for increased magic find and gives increased damage and attack speed on kills.

4. Harbinger can be used in Erebban for an absorb shield, movement speed, and to move unhindered through enemies.

5. Survivor is the recommended paragon for Vanguard because it has a cheat death that works in Vanguard.

6. The best paragon legendary skill for this build is Lightning Rod which deals damage when you repeatedly hit enemies.

Main Hand

Leaping Shadow - Seven-Sided Strike now empowers you launching attacks at nearby enemies.

Off-Hand

Tranquil Palm - Exploding Palm now makes you untargetable while teleporting around damaging nearby enemies.

Note: This Exploding Palm essence makes you untargetable which is what makes this build strong in PvP.

Main Hand 2

Calefaction - Shield of Zen now deals damage, reduces damage taken, and makes you immune to knockback.

Off-Hand 2

Reticent Wind (PvP) - Mystic Strike causes you to become invisible for a duration.

Thousandth Cut (PvM) - Fist of Thunder has increased damage for each abnormal status on the enemy.

Helmet

Crippling Insight (PvP) - Exploding Palm now also gives an extra charge.

Malefic Apparition (PvM) - Mystic Allies also increase your critical hit chance for every spirit ally stacking up to four times.

Chest

Soiled Feast - Seven-Sided Strike also triggers Exploding Palm without consuming it but the explosion deals less damage.

Shoulders

Ascending Raincloud (PvP) - Mystic Strike increases your evasion rating significantly for a medium duration.

Windchild (PvM) - Seven-Sided Strike now also increases your movement speed.

Legs

Hidden Way (PvP) - Exploding Palm now can stack on enemies and its explosion damage is increased for every stack.

Waxing Steps (PvM) - Mystic Allies primary attacks have a chance at summoning an additional spirit ally.

Recommended Sets

1. Grace of the Flagellant (4 Set) - Deals bonus damage after damaging an enemy five times.

2. Vithu's Urges (2 Set) - Increases the duration of beneficial effects on you and your party members by 30%.

3. Banquet of Eyes (PvM 2 Set) - Increases damage to enemies by 15% when they have continual damage on them.

4. Untouchable Mountebank (PvP 2 Set) - Gives a 20% chance to gain an absorb shield when you take damage.

Best Curses

1. Lashed - Use at least four items with this curse to make primary attacks cause three damaging whips on cooldown.

2. Wired - Optional to create a surge of lightning on kill that jumps between enemies with a medium length cooldown.

3. Ghosted (PvP) - Optional for PvP to summon a minion to take some of your incoming damage.

Best 5 Star Legendary Gems

1. Roiling Consequence - Increases your critical hit chance and causes critical hits to burn enemies.

2. Blood-Soaked Jade - Gives increased damage, reduces damage taken below 50% life, and increases movement speed.

3. Golden Firmament - Causes multiple ranged wind attacks and increases your evasion rating.

4. Starfire Shard - Deals AoE damage and stuns enemies in PvP inside the Maw of the Deep legendary gem effect.

5. Blood Floe - Lower priority 5 star gem that increases damage, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and causes bleed.

6. Maw of the Deep - Can be used at a high rank to deal damage, gain a damage buff, draw in enemies, and stun enemies.

7. Colossus Engine - Gives increased skill damage, increased area of effect, knockback immunity, and increased size (which increases your movement speed) for a medium duration with a 20 second cooldown.

8. Void Spark (PvM) - Deals AoE damage that's very effective for challenge dungeons, terror rifts, and speed farming.

9. Frozen Heart (PvP) - A strong legendary gem for PvP that gives an absorb shield and chills opponents.

Note: The Mother's Lament two star critical hit chance legendary gem can be used with the new Blood Floe critical hit chance/critical hit damage legendary gem in the place of a 5 star legendary gem at lower resonance levels.

Best 2 Star Legendary Gems

1. Pain Clasp - Gives high increased damage against enemies that have a continuous damage effect on them.

2. Mother's Lament - Increases your critical hit chance and causes a blood spike that makes enemies bleed.

3. Specter Glass - Increases the damage taken by enemies after critical hits and increases your critical hit chance.

4. Fervent Fang - Gives enemies a stacking damage taken increase when they are hit by an attack.

5. Mourneskull - This legacy gem is drop disabled but it can still be used to increase your damage and it deals damage.

6. Crimson Behelit - Strong PvP legacy gem with increased damage and reduced damage taken that's drop disabled.

Note: Viper's Bite isn't needed to trigger the damage increase on Pain Clasp from there being continuous damage on the target because the Shield of Zen skill with the Calefaction weapon essence already deals continuous damage.

Best 1 Star Legendary Gems

1. Berserker's Eye (PvM) - Increases all of your damage and critical hit chance but also increases your damage taken.

2. Entropic Well - A strong budget one star gem for skill damage that can eventually be replaced with a strong 5 star gem.

3. Everlasting Torment - A budget option gem that deals damage over time on critical hits and increases your attack speed.

Note: Berserker's Eye is a strong one star legendary gem and requires a high ranked up 5 star gem to match its damage.

Best Familiars

1. Savior Duskprowler - Look for a 170+ Resilience legendary Duskprowler with the Savior passive skill which provides a cheat death and temporary damage immunity. The 170+ Resilience is important for lowering the cooldown of Savior.

2. Broodtalon/Skitterwight - Look for Savior which provides a cheat death and Lingering Wounds for increased damage.

3. Any Savior Familiar - Look for any 170+ Resilience familiar with Savior for a cheat death and great passive skills.

4. Rare Duskprowler - Relentless Strikes is the next best skill because it gives a chance to cast the Duskprowler shield twice. Innervate which gives a chance at resetting one of the player's skill cooldowns, Steel Hide which gives a chance to block, Precision which gives critical hit chance, and Tenacity which lowers the cooldown of the shield are also desirable.

5. Magic Duskprowler - Duskprowler shields are hard to replace so a rare or magic ability Duskprowler is the budget option.

Note: Broodtalons and Skitterwights have status effects over a duration which increases the duration of Lingering Wounds.

Normal Gems

Prioritize Tourmalines for added damage in red sockets and a combination of Citrines and Topazes for potency and resistances in yellow sockets for the highest refinement. Potency increases harmful effects durations on enemies and resistances decrease harmful effects durations on you. Citrines for potency is preferred if you only care about PvM damage but resistances come into play more with PvP. You should also use your highest refinement Aquamarines and Sapphires which give increased armor and armor penetration in blue sockets. You can optionally combine all of your bound Rubies which give life into one or two Rubies and socket them into your equipment if they give more refinement. Gems give refinement based on their quality and refinement increases the attributes on the equipment the gems are socketed in.

Gem Notes

The Blood Floe gem is a great option when it's combined with multiple sources of critical hit chance and critical hit damage. The Viper's Bite and Seeping Bile legendary gems aren't needed to trigger the damage increase on the Pain Clasp legendary gem from there being continuous damage on the target because this build already has continuous damage. Golden Firmament is a very strong 5 star legendary gem that has wind damage, increased evasion rating, and Firestorms when mixed with burning damage which increases wind damage. When using legendary gems that give increased critical hit chance you should consider rolling critical hit damage on every piece of gear with Reforge Stones. One of your lowest priority legendary gems should also be switched to a Frozen Heart for PvP for an absorb shield and to chill opponents.
