Charge Zeal Hyrbid Paladin Guide for PvP
PvP Rank: C Class / PvM Rank: F Class
Introduction
Physical Zealots have lower damage than most of the other classes in PvM and they have a spread out attack with Zeal which is why their PvM rating is so low. The Charge Zeal Hybrid Paladin is also one of the weakest melee PvP builds but if you're very skilled you can still be very competitive. If you want a stronger melee build that uses Charge you can also try out a Smite Paladin which is considered one of the most powerful melee builds in the game. However, if you still wish to try out the PvP Charge Zealot Hybrid Paladin then read on. Players can still win plenty of duels with a Charge Zealot Paladin but it does take a little skill.
Hybrid Charge Zealadin Skills
The PvP Physical Charge Zeal Paladin deals high single target damage, they can quickly close the distance with enemies using their Charge skill which stuns opponents when it connects, and the build has strong defenses as a Paladin.
Recommendation: Hybrid Charge Zeal Paladin

All remaining points in Might which is another Charge synergy.
Hybrid Zealadin Paladin Gear
Weapon (When You Need Block)
Grief Berserker Axe (Eth Tir Lo Mal Ral) - Berserker Axes have more range than Phase Blades and deal more damage. With a Grief Berserker Axe you will need at least 38% increased attack speed to reach the final attack speed breakpoint with 20% increased attack speed on your gloves. Grief is sometimes considered bad manners in PvP so you can also use a good manners Ethereal Breath of the Dying Berserker Axe (Vex Hel El Eld Zod Eth) for high damage, 60% increased attack speed, and 30 to all attributes.
Shield (When You Need Block)
Phoenix Sacred Targe (Vex Vex Lo Jah) - Phoenix gives up to 400% enhanced damage, level 10-15 Redemption aura, 5% to maximum lightning resistance, 10% to maximum fire resistance, and added fire absorb. The Sacred Targe Paladin shield base is recommended because it has the highest block chance of the Paladin shields and it can also come with up to 45% to all resistances.
Weapon Vs. Non-Physical Builds
Ethereal Breath of the Dying War Pike (Vex Hel El Eld Zod Eth) - This weapon should be used when a shield isn't needed. It has higher damage than a one handed weapon, 60% increased attack speed, life leech and mana leech, and 30 to all attributes.
Weapon Switch
Call to Arms (Amn Ral Mal Ist Ohm) - Used for up to +7 to Battle Orders with a Paladin Spirit Shield (Tal Thul Ort Amn) which has a lower strength requirement than a Monarch shield for another +2 to all skills. You can also optionally switch to a Demon Limb weapon in town for level 23 Enchant which increases your attack rating and then switch back to your Call to Arms.
Helmet
Crown of Ages (Ber Ber) - This helmet gives up to 15% reduced physical damage taken which can be increased to 31% with two Ber runes. It also has +1 to all skills, 30% faster hit recovery, 30% to all resistances, up to two sockets, and very high defense.
Helmet (Resistance Helmet)
Kira's Guardian (Um'd) - Kira's Guardian gives up to 70 to all resistances, cannot be frozen, and 20% faster hit recovery. Kira's Guardian should be used when fighting Cold Sorceresses, Nova Sorceresses, Poison Nova Necromancers, and Conviction Paladins because they all have ways to significantly lower your resistances.
Body
Fortitude (El Sol Dol Lo) - Gives 300% enhanced damage, up to all resistance +30%, high life per level, 5% to maximum lightning resistance, and a 20% chance to cast level 15 Chilling Armor when struck. Charge is extremely fast so you don't need Enigma in PvP.
Gloves (PvP)
Blood Gloves - Look for Blood Gloves with 20% increased attack speed, 10% crushing blow, life, and high resistances. Blood Gloves can be crafted using a pair of gambled Sharkskin Gloves with a Perfect Ruby, Nef rune, and a magic jewel in the Horadric Cube.
Gloves (PvM)
Dracul's Grasp - These gloves are best in slot for PvM because they have Life Tap which recovers a large amount of life on hit and they come with 10% life stolen per hit, 25% chance of open wounds, up to 15 strength, and 10 life after each kill. These gloves shouldn't be used in PvP, however, because their Life Tap curse is considered very bad manners in duels.
Belt (Default)
Verdungo's Hearty Cord - Use this belt in PvP for up to 15% reduced physical damage taken, 40 vitality, replenish life +13, and 10% faster hit recovery which helps you reach the 48% faster hit recovery breakpoint.
Belt (Vs. Lightning Builds)
Thundergod's Vigor - Gives 10% to maximum lightning resistance, 20 Strength, 20 Vitality, 20 lightning absorb, 1-50 lightning damage, and a 5% chance to cast level 7 Fist of the Heavens when struck.
Belt (PvM)
String of Ears - This belt is the best option for PvM for up to 8% life leech (life leech has full effect in PvM but only partial effect in PvP), 15% reduced physical damage taken, and magic damage taken reduced by 15.
Feet
Gore Riders - These boots give 30% faster run walk, 15% deadly strike, 15% crushing blow, and 10% chance of open wounds.
Feet (Vs. Lightning & Cold Builds That Lower Your Resistances)
Natalya's Boots - These boots have 40% faster run walk, up to 25% lightning resistance, and up to 25% cold resistance.
Feet (Vs. Fire Builds)
Infernostride - The recommended Phoenix shield has 10% to maximum fire resistance so you don't need Hotspur boots for more maximum fire resistance. Infernostride have 20% faster run walk (which is important), 10% to maximum fire resistance, and 30% fire resistance. They can be Up'd to Wyrmhide Boots using a Lem rune, Ko rune, and Perfect Diamond in the Horadric Cube.
Amulet
Metalgrid - Gives up to 450 to attack rating, high defense, and up to all resistance +35% which helps you over stack your resists.
Rings
Raven Frosts - You should use two Raven Frosts which each give up to 250 attack rating, 20 dexterity, 20% cold absorb, and cannot be frozen which is helpful for more attack rating and fighting cold damage builds.
Rings (Absorb)
Switch one Raven Frost for a Dwarf Star which gives 15% fire absorb when you're fighting fire damage builds and switch one Raven Frost for a Wisp Projector for up to 20% lightning absorb when you're fighting lightning damage builds.
Ring/Amulet Vs. High Defense Classes
Angelic Ring & Amulet - These two set items are excellent against high defense classes like Barbarians and Paladins for their extremely high attack rating, 10 dexterity, and life. They can be combined with a Raven Frost ring for even more attack rating.
Charms
Hellfire Torch for +3 Paladin Skills, Annihilus for +1 to all skills, one long duration poison damage small charm to cancel enemies' life regeneration, and the rest of your inventory should be filled with maximum damage/attack rating/life charms. You can also switch some of your charms for resistance charms with life when fighting against elemental damage builds that lower your resistances.
Mercenary Type
Act 2 Might Mercenary
Mercenary Weapon
Ethereal Reaper's Toll - Gives 15% life stolen per hit and a 33% chance to cast the Decrepify curse on striking.
Mercenary Armor
Ethereal Fortitude (El Sol Dol Lo) - Gives 300% enhanced damage, up to all resistances +30%, life per level, 5% to maximum lightning resistance, and a 20% chance to cast level 15 Chilling Armor when struck which greatly increases your defense.
Mercenary Helmet
Ethereal Andariel's Visage (Ral'd) - Gives +2 to all skills, 10% life leech, -30% fire resistance, and 30 strength. Ral rune gives 30% fire resistance but you can also upgrade to a 30% fire resistance jewel with 15% increased attack speed.
Budget Mercenary Weapon
Insight (Ral Tir Tal Sol) - Gives up to level 17 Meditation which gives very high mana regeneration.
Budget Mercenary Armor
Duriel's Shell - Gives all resistances +20%, 50% cold resistance, life per level, 15 strength, and cannot be frozen.
Budget Mercenary Helmet
Tal Rasha's Helmet - Gives 10% life stolen per hit, 15% to all resistances, and 60 life.
Note: Ethereal items don't lose durability on mercenaries.
Hybrid Dual Dream Zealadin Strategy
This character is capable of high single target damage and a very fast run speed with the Charge skill. Charge can quickly close the distance with casters and ranged attackers which allows you to use the Fortitude body armor for 300% enhanced damage instead of Enigma for Teleport. Charge also allows you to stun ranged attackers like Sorceresses so that you can quickly finish them off with Zeal. One of the weaknesses of this build is fighting summoning builds like Druids and Summon Necromancers because your Zeal attacks will be spread out to multiple targets. Charge also sometimes misses which means you will then be too close to the opponent to Charge again and that's when you should start using Zeal. If the opponent isn't built for block and/or defense you can chain Charge attacks to repeatedly knock them back which can result in a very fast kill.
Zealadin Paladin Leveling Items
You can start using Hsarus' Belt and Gloves once you have 30 strength and are level 3 for added defense and attack rating. Bane's Garments set should be switched to at level 8 for +1 to all skills, high damage, attack rating, and great set modifiers. You can add Angelic Amulet and Ring once you reach level 12 for life and attack rating and you should use a Manald Heal ring for up to 7% mana stolen per hit at level 15. Aldur's set weapon socketed with three Shael runes can be switched to at level 42. Smoke (Nef Lum) is an inexpensive starter runeword body armor that can be used early on for 20% faster hit recovery and an easy all resistances +50%.
That's all for the Hybrid Charge Zeal Guide. You can check out more guides in the menu at the top of this page. Good luck!
